While the site has generous views of Sarasota Bay and of Otter's Key, the existing house is separated from the water's edge by an 8' high base and a screened pool.

The renovation removes the screen and carves a ten foot wide stair into the concrete base. A thin folded roof shades a large exterior terrace to reconnect the house with the water.

Between the new roof and the existing house, a new bamboo courtyard is created. The addition on the second floor accommodates the owner's vast library.
